The greater
El Paso Region is home to 11 post-secondary institutions, including two
four-year and graduate post-secondary institutions, and nine two-year community
colleges, professional, and technical schools. The region's four-year
institutions enroll roughly 34,572 students annually, while the two-year
institutions enroll an annual total of approximately 35,598.
The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is the largest four-year and
graduate post-secondary institution, enrolling 20,154 students annually.
UTEP consists of six colleges (Business Administration, Education, Engineering,
Health Sciences, Liberal Arts, and Sciences) and offers 81 Bachelors, 74
Masters and 14 Doctoral Programs. Undergraduate and graduate degrees are
offered in a variety of engineering disciplines, including civil, electrical,
computer science, industrial, metallurgy, and mechanical.
Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) is an independently
accredited, comprehensive, health sciences university with component schools of
Allied Health, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, and
Pharmacy. TTUHSC provides all of West Texas with high quality accessible
healthcare services and access to educational opportunities. With support from
the Texas legislature, TTUHSC seeks to develop an independent, LCME accredited,
four-year medical school in El Paso, Texas. This will be an expansion from the
existing regional campus in El Paso that has 13 clinical departments and 8
independently accredited residency programs. Admission of the charter class of
students is anticipated for fall of 2008 or 2009.
New Mexico State University (NMSU), with its main campus in Las Cruces, has an
annual enrollment of 16,415 students. NMSU offers 77 Bachelors, 50 Masters, 2
Specialist-in-Education, and 22 Doctoral degree programs. The main campus is
home to six academic colleges, a growing distance education program and the
state's only Honors College and aerospace engineering program. The university
offers undergraduate and masters degree programs in several other engineering
disciplines including chemical, civil, electrical, industrial and mechanical.
Community colleges are positioned in all three of the region's counties,
however, El Paso Community College (EPCC) is the largest two-year institution
serving the Greater El Paso Region. It enrolls more than 35,000 students and
graduates approximately 2,300 students annually. The college offers 130
programs of study to earn an Associates degree or certificate of completion.
EPCC also offers more than 350 personal enrichment/continuing education
courses. Coursework at EPCC is transferable to any Texas college or university.
